FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kristyn Grunza and Solomon Isom Named Mansfield University Fall Female and Male Athletes of the Year

MANSFIELD – Field hockey All-American Kristyn Grunza (Nicholson/Lackawanna Trail) and sprint football All-CSFL selection Solomon Isom (Philadelphia/Northeast) were named the Mansfield University Fall Female and Male Athletes of the Year. The announcement was made at the MU Fall Sports Banquet.

Grunza, a sophomore midfielder, was the centerpiece of the Mountaineers offense this season recording 30 points on 12 goals and six assist. She ranked among the top ten in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in points, goals and assists.

Grunza become just the seventh player in school history to record 30 points in a season while her 12 goals ranks 10th in school history. A co-captain this season, Grunza was also a 1st Team All-PSAC West selection as well as a PSAC and MU Presidential Scholar-Athlete.

Isom earned 1st Team All-CSFL honors this season at linebacker ranking among the conference leaders with 51 tackles, including 32 solo tackles, on the season. He also recorded a sack, two fumble recoveries – one of which he returned for a 37-yard touchdown – and four pass breakups.

The senior was twice named the CSFL Defensive Player of the Week and recorded more than 100 tackles during his career.

In addition to announcement of the Fall Athletes of the Year, each of the five sports: men's and women's cross country, field hockey, sprint football and women's soccer announced their Most Improved and Most Valuable Player selections.
