Mounties Sweep Season Opener Behind Rosenberger and Taddeo

WINTER PARK, FL – Senior Eric Rosenberger threw a complete game in the opener and Jon Taddeo delivered a game-winning two run triple in the sixth inning of the nightcap to lift Mansfield to a 7-3, 4-2 sweep over the University of Charleston (WV) in Winter Park, FL Sunday afternoon.

In the opener, Rosenberger, who missed all of last season with an injury, scattered six hits while striking out five in going the distance.

Mansfield trailed 2-0 going into the top of the fourth when the Mountaineers scored five runs. Taddeo plated MU's first run of the season on a sacrifice fly and Brian Milliman drove in two more runs with a single. Glen Jenkins followed Milliman with an RBI single to left field and Kevin Miller, who led off the inning with a single, drove in the final run of the inning with a bases-loaded walk.

The Mountaineers got two more runs in the top of the sixth on a run scoring triple by Seth Tressler and an RBI single from Miller.

Milliman went 2-2 with two RBI while Miller also drove in two runs. Dylan Woodworth added a triple.
In the nightcap, Charleston (1-5) scored two runs off starter Joe Candelmo in the top of the fourth inning.

The Mountaineers tied the score in the bottom of the inning when Jon Moser led off with a single and score on a triple by Mike Iseneker. Joel Worthington singled to drive in Isneker.

Mansfield scored the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth when Woodworth singled with two outs and Tressler walked. Taddeo then tripled down the left field line to score both runners giving the Mountaineers a 4-2 lead.

Candelmo, a sophomore transfer from Niagara University, allowed a leadoff single in the top of the seventh before retiring the next three batters in a row including a game ending strikeout. Candelmo threw a complete game allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out five and walking none.

Glen Jenkins went 2-3 from the plate with Taddeo was 1-3 with a triple and three RBI.

Tim Ponn took the loss for Charleston with Sage Iocovone going 2-3 with two RBI.

Mansfield plays Concordia University (MN) in a single game starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
