FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Men's and Women's Cross Country set for PSAC Championships Saturday

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University men's and women's cross country teams are set to take on the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Saturday when they travel to Slippery Rock, Pa. for the 2012 conference championships. The men's 8K race will start at 10:15 am while the women's 6K race starts at 11:15 am.

The Mountaineer women return two All-PSAC athletes from the 2011 season in juniors Jess Scordino and Kristy Scordino. Last year, Jess and Kristy finished 14th and 15th respectively at the PSAC championships to help Mansfield to a best-ever fifth place team finish.

Mansfield rounds out a solid top three with junior Savannah Boucher. Boucher, a junior college transfer from Mohawk Valley C.C., was the 2011 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) cross country national champion. In her last outing, Boucher led the Mounties with a 7th place finish at the Gettysburg Invitational.

Completing a strong pack are veterans Amy Lee, Kristen Von Bevern, Rachael Tylock and Kait Chegwidden.

Mansfield is currently ranked 8th in the Atlantic region.

The men's team is coming off their best performance of the season with an 8th place team finish at the Gettysburg Invitational last Saturday. Sophomore Jesse Jones finished 17th overall at the Invite to pace Mansfield while junior Will Mullen finished close behind at 21st.

The Mountaineers will look to improve on their 13th place finish at last season's PSAC Championships. Mullen is the top returning finisher from the 2011 championships where he came away with a 73rd place time as a sophomore. Senior Alex Beard finished 97th overall.

Jake Shedden will compete in his first PSAC Championship on Saturday. Shedden was a redshirt last season after transferring from Penn Tech where he finished 2nd at the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships on his way to earning All-American honors.

Jordan Boothe, Eric Scherer and Jacob Portock round out a solid pack for the Mountaineers.

Following the PSAC meet, Mansfield will travel to Lock Haven for the NCAA Atlantic Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 3.
