It has long been the Mansfield tradition to do more with less and our student-athletes have been a great example of that determination with their success on the playing fields, in the classroom and reaching out to help others in our community.
By donating to Mansfield University athletic scholarships our coaches and student-athletes are not asking you to do something they are not willing to do themselves. Over the course of last year alone, Mansfield University athletic programs raised in excess of $75,000 in scholarship money through a variety of fund-raising activities.
In order to compete in the very competitive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Mansfield University and our student-athletes need your support.

There is a great need to supplement our athletic scholarship fund in order to expose even more gifted student-athletes to the unique Mansfield experience. Although we will continue to explore additional sources of revenue, your donation is extremely important to the success of our student-athletes.

- Mansfield University is a charter member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The PSAC currently consists of 16 full-member institutions all located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with associate-member CW Post located in Long Island, NY participating in football and field hockey. The other member schools are: Bloomsburg University, California University of Pennsylvania, Cheyney University, Clarion University, East Stroudsburg University, Edinboro University, Gannon University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown University, Lock Haven University, Mercyhurst University, Millersville University, Shippensburg University, Slippery Rock University and West Chester University.
- The PSAC is considered one of the most elite conferences in the NCAA. The PSAC is the largest conference in the entire NCAA that has all its full-time members located in one-state. The league has also grown to share the distinctions as: The largest conference in Division II, and, with 23, the conference that sponsors the most championships at the Division II level. Participating as a NCAA Division II conference, all PSAC member schools offer athletic scholarships opportunities to student-athletes.
- Mansfield currently offers 14 varsity athletic programs including 13 of which are NCAA Division II programs that allow athletic scholarship opportunities for student-athletes. Sprint football is a varsity sport that competes in the non-scholarship Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) along with Army, Cornell, Navy, the University of Pennsylvania, and Princeton University as full-time members. Post University will participate as a probationary part-time member in 2010.
- Approximately 300 student-athletes competed for Mansfield during the 2009-10 academic year. Last year 56% of Mansfield’s student-athletes participating in NCAA Division II programs received some degree of athletic scholarship.
- For the 2009-10 academic year, 34% of all Mansfield student-athletes competing in PSAC programs earn All-PSAC Scholar-Athletic recognition by maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or above.
- Seven Mansfield athletic programs -- men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track & field, field hockey, women’s basketball and women’s soccer -- earned All-Academic team honors from their respective coaches associations for team grade point averages of 3.00 or higher during the academic year. Dozens of MU student-athletes earned national All-Academic honors in their respective sport.
- The graduation rate for student-athletes at Mansfield University is 20% higher than the graduation rate for the general student body. The ASR (Academic Success Rate) for Mansfield student-athletes is 78% according to the most recent figures available.
- Our student-athletes are also involved in dozens of community programs each year from Relay for Life to serving as coaches in youth league programs. Mansfield student-athletes and coaches have a long tradition of supporting our local Special Olympics organization and have been twice selected as the Pennsylvania Special Olympics Athletic Program of the Year.
- As a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Mansfield is prohibited from using general operating funds or student money for athletic scholarship. All funding for athletic scholarship must be raised from outside sources. Those sources include endowments that have been established for different athletic programs over the years, as well as support from the Mansfield University Foundation and individual donors. Funding is also realized through the Mansfield University Corporate Sponsorship Program, summer camps, game concessions, game admission revenue and contracts with university providers among other sources.
- In 2009-10 Mansfield athletics awarded $418,815.74 in grant-in-aid equivalencies of which $287,573.50 was in athletic scholarship dollars. MU athletic teams themselves raised more than $75,000 through camps, clinics and other fund raisers that went to supplement their scholarship funds.
- More than 80% of Mansfield athletic competitions are scheduled against PSAC opponents. The athletic scholarship funding for the other 15 conference schools runs from $5,507,340.00 from the most funded in athletic scholarship to $238,400.00 for the lowest funded athletic scholarship school.
- Mansfield, the second smallest school in enrollment in the PSAC, ranks 14th overall in athletic scholarship funding with five PSAC schools awarding more than $1,000,000 in athletic scholarships yearly.
